"Speaking Hatefully: Culture, Communication, and Political Action in Hungary"
Friday, October 19th
"Hate speech" is a social issue. There is no consensus about what the term "hate speech" means. "Hate speech" is a term that points to a type of public expression. "Hate speech" is gyűlöletbeszéd in Hungarian.
Speaking Hatefully, David Boromisza-Habashi's forthcoming book, investigates the relationships among these propositions, and asks what we can learn from those relation-ships. The presentation will demonstrate how the book approaches the cultural foundations of public communication and how cultural thinking can be used to inform political action through public expression.
